Head to toe. That’s a good motto. Make sure your feet are part of the package, loafers, sneakers, sandals or boots.
Mens shoes are relatively easy. However, just like drinking a nice single malt from its proper glass, shoes demand just as much respect. Wrong shoes with wrong wardrobe choices are just as bad.
Basically to start off a good shoe selection can be pretty daunting, but there are a few basic styles that can balance out the summer wardrobe.
1. Oxfords . Classic dress shoe. Black or brown. Good quality comes with a higher price. Keep them clean and shined. I found the quick shine tool works wonders for those impromptu spots and scuffs. No square toes either!
2. Loafer . Slip on shoes have been part of the semiformal attire for decades. Canvas works well with shorts and chinos for less casual looks. The leather slip on is a perfect addition to slacks, sport coat sans tie events.
3. Bucks . A causal soft leather or suede version of the classic dress shoe. Usually white or off white. I keep a stiff brush handy in my shoe box to clean these off in between wearing.
4. Sneaker . No Air Jordans or running shoes. The classic canvas, leather, PF Flyers, Jack Purcell’s, Converse or even Adidas Stan Smith look great with chinos, shorts or jeans.
